The Extent of Protection

This work is not merely a torso with a formation of points protruding the human figure, however, a visualisation of how far one can go to protect the exquisite. Henry states, “I had chosen the female body because it naturally has a much smoother structure, holds fewer sharp angles and contains an elegant standpoint in today’s world. The bumps on the torso represent an armour or protection that overlaps the general figure.” The concept behind the work is to state how far we go to protect. In other words, does the protection placed compliment the beauty of what we are guarding or does it transform our guarding being/object/thought into something unapproachable? Does the Elegance of what is being protected flourish and further enters an enticing state or, does it merely become another ordinary?

The heart is globally a symbol of love, warmth and other compassionate terms and emotions. When placed around the neck, can mean support from oneself or another. However, with this work, the torso is protected by the points on the body and contains the necklace over this protective layer. He also mentioned, “I wish this visual strikes the viewers as not everything elegant can be protected. That there is a method, this protective barrier cannot withstand. On the contrary, the heart shows the spirit of determination used to safeguard a being/object/thought thus adding to the pleasure and beauty of what we protect.”

Black has the conceptual setting of strength, fear, elegance, sophistication and a lot more. Silver contains the same associations with black-sleekness, modernity, gracefulness and more. The black and silver are the two primary colours of the piece due to their high correlation to the statement above. The black overcomes the silver due to silver having an overall industrial concept. The sculpture also contains little touches of brown, green yellow and red.
