HenryCM is a mixed artist born in Zambia. When he turned four, he moved to South Africa, reuniting with his mother. His primary school, Asteri Primary School, acknowledged him as head student artist amongst his peers. Henry was accepted into The National School of the Arts high school(NSA) with that honour. NSA is a specialized art-driven institution for artists, dancers, musicians, and performers, which puts arts before academics for the youth. In 2014 Henry moved to Canada, living in Prince Edwards Island for two years. In 2016 he moved to Toronto, having been Accepted into the OCAD University institution. Henry’s artistic efforts offered him a nomination for the BMO 1st Art by the Head members of the OCAD University institution. Recently received his bachelor of Fine Arts, now working as a Sculptor, Henry further planning to harness his skills.
Due to growing up in South Africa and now Canada, HenryCM obtained the ability to combine aspects of both worlds to produce work that speaks to both Western and African communities. His work summed in a single sentence: the manipulation of figurative aspects of the human body through a lens that is a blend of uniquely stoic, contemporary, sub-Saharan African and North American perspectives. From a young age, HenryCM’s work has been sharpened from institution to institution.
His work constantly carries a void of expression with them. One could also state that his work results from when one forgets the feeling of emotions and is fixated on obtaining this lost ability. Additionally, one could also state, his work is a visual identification of overprocessing emotions. In the grand scheme of things, Henry’s work is paradoxical and open for interpretation.
